"The Great" canceled after three seasons. Hulu has canceled the fan-favorite series "The Great" after three seasons.

"The Great" series, starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult, was created, written, and produced by Tony McNamara. It reimagined period drama by revisiting the life of "Catherine The Great," the reigning Empress of Russia from 1762 to 1796. It portrayed an iconic character and her place in history through a unique lens.

The third season was released on May 12 and focused on Catherine (Fanning) and Nicholas (Hoult) working on their marriage.

Deadline reports that it's unclear what led the streaming platform to cancel the comedy, which received positive reviews and seven Emmy nominations since its debut in 2020. It won an Emmy for Best Period Costume Design in 2022, the same year Fanning and Hoult received their first nominations for leading the popular series.

Fanning also received numerous other accolades for her portrayal of Catherine, including a SAG Award, a Critics Choice Award, an Independent Spirit Award, and two Golden Globe nominations.

"The Great" also featured Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Bayo Gbadamosi, and Belinda Bromilow. Several key characters died in the third season (WHAT??), which received the highest praise compared to the previous two seasons.

The end of season 3 wasn't exactly a cliffhanger, as it concluded with Catherine showing tremendous growth as a ruler (while sporting a new haircut). She also danced to AC/DC.

WTF? "The Great" canceled after three seasons. Noooooo... they always cancel the unique series. SAD!
