In an exciting match played in the final of SAG (South Asian Games) football 2016, Nepal has lifted the Gold Medal defeating India 2-1.
In the match played at Guwahati India on Monday evening, Nepalese youth football team once again proved that they are the champion in South Asian Region. Last time Nepal had lifted another prestigious Bangabandhu Cup in Bangladesh defeating Bahrain in the final.
Indian team with technical attack in the first half put Nepal is pressure that resulted into goal at 32nd minutes through penalty goal when Indian Player was fouled inside the D area by Nepalese player Aaditya Chaudary. Hali Charan Nerjari didn't miss the penalty to give his team an important lead.First half ended with India leading by 1-0.
In the second half, Nepal's coach Raju Shakya decided to change one player that quickly showed up in the match and started put pressure over India. In the 65th minutes, Nepal's Prakash Budhathoki scored in a beautiful free kick that didn't just equalize the score but Nepalese team's confidence doubled and their attack continued.
On the 70 th minutes, Nepal's rising star hat-trick man Nawayug Shrestha scored in a beautiful volley cross ball and doubled the score and also the chance of becoming the champion. Once again Nepal didn't go for distinct defense but continued attacking until the last minute. There was 4 minutes extra time given while India was trying their hardest to re -bounce back on the match, but Nepalese players with their stunning techniques and will power didn't allow them to score, hence Nepal with 2-1 score lifted the first South Asian Football Trophy after 23 years.
Nepal's Nawayug Shrestha bagged the most goal scorer award in the SAG football 2016.
